New three year deal on the table for Mahrez

Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez

With Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez expected to commit his immediate future to the club, a new report suggests that the Algerian is close to agreeing a fresh three year deal at the Etihad.

After a slow start to life with the Citizens, Mahrez built a reputation for himself as being one of Pep Guardiola’s most important attackers, particularly in the last two seasons.

The Algerian has been City’s highest goalscorer for two campaigns on the trot and recently had a memorable run in the 2022 UEFA Champions League, scoring seven goals in 12 outings. In total, Mahrez scored 24 goals and recorded nine assists in 47 games last season.

Now though, L’Equipe has reported that Mahrez is close to signing a contract extension, with a new three-year deal said to be on the cards.

The extension would see him be contracted to the club until 2025, joining players such as Kevin De Bruyne, Ruben Dias, Joao Concelo and Emerson who have committed their immediate future to City in long-term deals.

Also, Mahrez has been linked with a move elsewhere, with the likes of Real Madrid, Paris Saint Germain and Juventus reportedly keen on the winger before talks of a new contract were brought up.
